Gout is a Rheumatic Disease and Gout Treatment

By Dr. Mital John at 2011-02-03 04:12:47
Gout is a rheumatic disease that usually attacks a single joint at a time. Any comic book reader would know that the disease has a predilection for middle-aged men's big toe, which rises and becomes red and sore - so sore that just that one person is going through space, can cause severe pain.

What causes gout?

• Disease is caused by deposition of uric acid crystals in joints. Uric acid is a byproduct from the decomposition of a certain kind of waste substances purines.
• Normally uric acid is excreted during urination, but in patients with facilities for gout, uric acid accumulates in the blood. In some of these are blood concentration is so high that uric acid is "running out" and deposited in the joints and possibly in the skin.
• However, there are many people with elevated uric acid levels, which do not develop gout.

Blood uric acid and subsequent risk of gout?

• In 90 percent of cases are due to increased uric acid (hyperuricemia) renal excretion of uric acid in the kidneys. This may be caused by drugs (for example, many different diuretic preparations and low-dose aspirin), hypertension or diabetes that can affect kidney function.
• In about 10 percent of cases are cause increased production of uric acid, which in rare cases is congenital, but most often triggered by lifestyle factors such as high alcohol intake, high caloric intake and obesity, and diseases with increased cellehenfald such as psoriasis and cancer

What are the signs of gout?

Before you develop symptoms of gout, there is usually undergone a period of several years, where uric acid levels in the blood were higher and higher. This condition is called asymptomatic hyperuricaemia. 95 percent of those who have this condition never develop gout.

The first gout attacks often take place at night:

• You wake typically with an extreme pain in big toe grundled or another limb (if the pain is in the knee or the shoulder, called respectively gonagra and omagra).
• The joint is swollen and may also be bright red.
• Triggered violent pain of the smallest stimuli, such as a sheet or bedspread on top of the toe.

How does the doctor diagnose gout?

• The diagnosis is usually based on clinical picture and secured by the detection of uric acid crystals in joint fluid.
• Your doctor will take a blood test to get your measured uric acid concentration. X-rays may be an additional investigation to clarify any signs of joint damage

How is gout?

With modern treatment it has become a lot easier to relieve gout.

Efforts should focus on three fronts.

• During the very real attack is the key to dim the pain. Here used NSAIDs. In some cases, corticosteroids, either by injection or tablets.
• With repeated attacks you will be offered a preventive treatment to be lower levels of uric acid.
• Finally it is important to change his lifestyle, as outlined above.

The goal of treatment is to eliminate pain and swelling, prevent further episodes, prevent and treat to phi and to prevent formation of urinary stones.
