Pimples can cause frustration and irritation when they appear. People who suffer from frequent pimples are usually suffering from a condition called acne. Pimples form when pores get clogged by sebum, a type of oil that normally lubricates the hair and skin. Most breakouts usually occur in the T-zone, which is the forehead and nose.

Skin Care Tips

Wash your face twice each day. Wash your face in the morning and at night before you go to bed. Make sure you remove all your makeup before you go to bed. This gives your skin a chance to breathe.

Wash your face gently; don't scrub too hard. While it is important to exfoliate, try to keep it to only about once or twice a week. Scrubbing your face too hard will actually stimulate oil production and could lead to more breakouts.

If you suffer from acne, wash your hair daily. This helps keep the oil from your hair and head from making its way down onto your face. Keep your hair off your face because this too can cause breakouts.

Don't pop or pick at pimples. This can push the infection further into your skin, which can make the pimple worse and might even lead to scarring.

Prevent acne by avoiding touching your face. When you touch your face, the oil, dirt and bacteria from your hands gets on your skin and that can lead to further pimples. If you wear glasses or sunglasses, wash them frequently because oil, dirt and bacteria collect on them and will clog your pores. The same goes for your cell phone and telephone receiver.

Use water-based makeup. Avoid oil-based makeup. Check the labels and make sure that the makeup you are using is non-comedogenic. This means that it won't clog your pores.

Avoid tanning or too much exposure to the sun. Tanning causes skin damage, which increases the chance for pimples in the future.

Try using different facial washes. Your skin may do better with one type of face wash over another. Try facial washes that are organic or washes that contains an acne treatment such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. You can also apply a lotion that contains these acne treatments.

A great facial wash to use is one that you can make at home very cheaply. Use vegetable glycerin and mix it with baking soda until it is thick. Store this in an opaque container that doesn't allow light to enter. Light degrades vegetable glycerin quickly. You'll need to mix this facial wash with a spoon every time before you use it. This facial wash works wonders and is incredibly cheap. You can purchase vegetable glycerin at a whole foods store or online.
